Rubber Soul is the sixth studio album by the Beatles, released in 1965 through Parlophone. Recorded at EMI Studios in London over four weeks, it was the first Beatles album made without competing concert, radio, or film commitments. The sessions also marked a greater level of creative control in the studio, with the band treating the album more deliberately as a complete artistic work.
Musically, the album combines pop, soul, folk rock, and rhythm and blues while expanding the group's arrangements through sitar, harmonium, fuzz bass, altered tape speeds, and more detailed vocal harmonies. Songs including "Norwegian Wood," "Nowhere Man," "Michelle," "In My Life," and "If I Needed Someone" also showed a broader lyrical focus than the band's earlier material.
Rubber Soul topped the album charts in both the United Kingdom and the United States and became highly influential on the growing shift toward albums as complete artistic statements rather than collections of singles. It was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2000.
