NEW DOUBLE LP
New sealed copy. 2024 first run limited edition release with autographed insert.
Revelation is the fifth studio album by Canadian singer songwriter Leif Vollebekk, released in 2024 through Secret City Records. Written largely during the pandemic, the album followed a period in which Vollebekk stepped away from touring, built a home studio, and spent time reading about science, Carl Jung, dreams, and alchemy. Those interests informed songs dealing with nature, mortality, spirituality, relationships, and the passage of time.
The majority of Revelation was recorded at Dreamland Studios in Woodstock, New York, with additional sessions at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles. Vollebekk plays piano, guitar, bass, organ, synthesizers, harmonica, and accordion, joined by musicians including Jim Keltner, Shahzad Ismaily, Cindy Cashdollar, Olivier Fairfield, and Sarah Pagé. Angie McMahon and Anaïs Mitchell contribute backing vocals, while Rob Moose and the Budapest Scoring Orchestra appear on the string arrangements.
Musically, the album expands Vollebekk's folk and singer songwriter foundations with soft rock, piano, steel guitar, strings, and orchestral arrangements. Several songs originated in dreams or other spontaneous ideas, while much of the record was performed in complete takes with the musicians playing together. The resulting arrangements place greater emphasis on ensemble performance and orchestration than much of Vollebekk's earlier work.
