NEW EP
New sealed copy. 2022 reissue.
Pikul is the debut EP by Silversun Pickups, released in 2005 through Dangerbird Records. Recorded across several sessions between 2002 and 2005, the collection captures the Los Angeles band during its early development, several years before the release of its first full length album, Carnavas.
The EP introduces the layered guitar sound, shifting dynamics, and atmospheric alternative rock that would become central to the band's later work. Songs including "Kissing Families," "The Fuzz," "Booksmart Devil," "Comeback Kid," and "Creation Lake" move between dense distortion and quieter, more spacious arrangements. After "...All the Go Inbetweens," a sequence of short untitled tracks eventually leads to the hidden song "Sci Fi Lullaby."
The title comes from the nickname of Douglas Lee Kratz, a friend of the band who died in a 2001 plane crash in the Bahamas, and the EP is dedicated to his memory. Pikul remains an early document of Silversun Pickups as the group was establishing the sound that would define its subsequent recordings.
