Danzig II: Lucifuge is the second studio album by Danzig, released in 1990 on Def American Recordings. It was later reissued in 1998 after the label became American Recordings. The album followed the band’s self titled debut and further established the lineup of vocalist Glenn Danzig, guitarist John Christ, bassist Eerie Von, and drummer Chuck Biscuits.
Recorded in several Hollywood studios between June 1989 and May 1990, Lucifuge took longer to complete than the band’s first album. Musically it expanded the group’s sound by incorporating stronger blues influences alongside their dark hard rock style. Songs such as “Her Black Wings,” “Long Way Back from Hell,” and “Snakes of Christ” combine heavy riffs with lyrical themes centered on religion, temptation, and the idea of evil.
Upon release the album received largely positive reviews and was widely noted for its darker atmosphere and blues driven songwriting. Over time Lucifuge has come to be regarded as one of the defining recordings of the band’s original era.
