NEW DOUBLE LP
New sealed copy. 2002 remaster. Repress.
Rattle and Hum is a hybrid live/studio album by Irish rock band U2, released on 10 October 1988, alongside a companion rockumentary film directed by Phil Joanou. Produced by Jimmy Iovine, the album captures the band's evolving relationship with American roots music on their Joshua Tree Tour, blending blues rock, folk rock, and gospel influences into new studio tracks, live performances, and covers. Recorded partly at Sun Studio in Memphis, the project features collaborations with Bob Dylan, B. B. King, and Harlem's New Voices of Freedom gospel choir.
The album and film received mixed reviews—some critics praised the band's energy, while others viewed it as overblown. However, the album was a commercial triumph, topping charts in multiple countries and selling 14 million copies. It also produced the lead single “Desire,” which became U2’s first UK number-one hit. The project’s reception prompted the band to seek a new creative direction in the 1990s, ultimately leading to a reinvention of their musical and public image.
