NEW DOUBLE LP
New sealed copy. Rhino Records Rocktober 2025 limited edition remastered reissue.
The Least Worst Of is a 2000 compilation album by Type O Negative, collecting highlights, rarities, and oddities from across the band’s catalog. Released through Roadrunner Records, it features both edited and unedited versions, the latter bearing a Parental Advisory label. The cover photograph, showing the defunct Parachute Jump at Coney Island in Brooklyn, reflects the band’s New York roots and characteristic sense of decay and nostalgia.
Spanning their gothic metal, doom, and darkly humorous phases, the collection combines key tracks with remixes and unreleased material. True to their irreverent spirit, it opens with “The Misinterpretation of Silence and Its Disastrous Consequences (Wombs and Tombs Mix),” a reworked version of a previous silent track—shortened here to thirty-nine seconds. This tongue-in-cheek inclusion sets the tone for an album that both honors and parodies the band’s legacy, showcasing their trademark blend of melancholy, satire, and atmosphere.
While not a greatest-hits record in the traditional sense, The Least Worst Of offers an alternative entry point into Type O Negative’s catalog. It captures their duality: theatrical yet sincere, morbid yet self-aware. For longtime fans, it serves as a wry retrospective; for newcomers, a glimpse into one of heavy music’s most distinctive voices.
