Toto is the self titled debut studio album by Toto, released in 1978 through Columbia Records. Formed from a group of highly experienced Los Angeles session musicians, the band brought together David Paich, Jeff Porcaro, Steve Lukather, David Hungate, Steve Porcaro, and vocalist Bobby Kimball.
The album moves between rock, pop, R&B, soul, jazz, and progressive influences, with most of the material written by Paich. “Hold the Line”, “I’ll Supply the Love”, and “Georgy Porgy” became its best known singles, while the instrumental “Child’s Anthem” introduced the album’s broader arranging style.
Toto reached number nine on the Billboard 200, while “Hold the Line” peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100. The record established the stylistic range and studio focused approach that would remain central to the band’s early catalogue.
