Get Close is the fourth studio album by the Pretenders, released in 1986 through Real Records in the United Kingdom and Sire Records in the United States. Recorded during a period of major lineup changes, the album was assembled across several sessions with producers Steve Lillywhite, Jimmy Iovine, and Bob Clearmountain. Chrissie Hynde remained the only original member by the end of the recording process, with guitarist Robbie McIntosh joined by a large group of session musicians.
Compared with the band's earlier new wave oriented records, Get Close places greater emphasis on funk, soul, rhythm and blues, keyboards, and synthesizers. The album includes "Don't Get Me Wrong" and "My Baby," both of which reached number one on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, as well as "Hymn to Her," "Light of the Moon," and a version of Jimi Hendrix's "Room Full of Mirrors."
The finished album was credited to a lineup of Hynde, McIntosh, T.M. Stevens, and Blair Cunningham, although Stevens and Cunningham joined during the later sessions. Get Close documents a transitional period for the Pretenders while broadening the band's sound beyond the style of their first three albums.
