The Offspring is the debut studio album by American punk rock band the Offspring, released in 1989 through Nemesis Records. Recorded at South Coast Recording in Santa Ana, California with producer Thom Wilson, the album captures the band at an early stage before the broader commercial success of Ignition and Smash. It also includes new recordings of "I'll Be Waiting" and "Blackball," two songs that had previously appeared on the band's first single.
The record presents a rawer and more direct version of the band's punk sound, with songs such as "Jennifer Lost the War," "Elders," "Beheaded," "Tehran," and "A Thousand Days" reflecting the faster and more aggressive style of their early material. The closing track, "Kill the President," later drew controversy and was removed from subsequent reissues.
The album was initially released in limited quantities and sold about 5,000 copies over its first two and a half years. Following its modest early reception, the Offspring signed with Epitaph Records in 1991, beginning the next phase of the band's development.
