The Monkees Greatest Hits is a 1976 compilation by The Monkees, released by Arista Records. The album is largely a reissue of the earlier Bell Records compilation Re Focus, bringing together many of the group’s best known singles and selections from their mid 1960s catalog.
By the mid 1970s the band’s original run had long since ended, but their music was experiencing renewed interest as reruns of the television series The Monkees began airing in syndication. A new generation of viewers discovered the group through daytime broadcasts, helping drive demand for their classic hits once again.
The compilation collects a mix of the band’s most recognizable songs along with several tracks featured in the television series. It proved to be one of the more successful Monkees retrospectives of the era and remained widely available through the 1980s before later catalog reissues reshaped the group’s compilation releases.
