Clouds Taste Metallic is the seventh studio album by the Flaming Lips, released in September 1995. It was the final record to feature guitarist Ronald Jones, and much of its recording process appears in the documentary Fearless Freaks.
At the time, the album was expected to build on the mainstream breakthrough of “She Don’t Use Jelly,” but it did not achieve the same level of commercial success. Over time, however, it has been reassessed and is now widely regarded as one of the band’s strongest and most distinctive records, earning a devoted cult following.
The album title comes from a story told by former Tool bassist Paul D’Amour, who recalled a pilot remarking that clouds taste metallic while flying in an open aircraft.
