Robbin' the Hood is the second studio album by American ska punk band Sublime, released in 1994 through Skunk Records. Much of the album was assembled from self produced four track home recordings, giving it a deliberately rough and experimental character. It was also the final Sublime studio album released during the lifetime of frontman Bradley Nowell.
The record mixes punk, reggae, dub, hip hop, and sample based collage, with numerous borrowed melodies, riffs, and lyrical references woven through the songs. Gwen Stefani appears on "Saw Red," while tracks such as "Steppin' Razor," "Boss D.J.," and "The Free Loop Dub" draw directly from earlier reggae and alternative recordings. The album also includes three spoken "Raleigh Soliloquies," which add to its loose, fragmented structure.
Several musical ideas from Robbin' the Hood later resurfaced in Sublime's work, most notably the chord progression from "Lincoln Highway Dub," which was reused for "Santeria." The album captures the band in a particularly raw stage of development, before the broader commercial success of their self titled album.
