VIVIsectVI is the fourth studio album by Canadian electro industrial band Skinny Puppy, released in 1988 through Nettwerk. Pronounced "vivisect six," the album further developed the abrasive electronic sound the group had established on Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse and Cleanse Fold and Manipulate, with Dave Ogilvie joining as a full time member during the sessions.
The album is built from dense layers of programmed percussion, synthesizers, samples, distorted vocals, and occasional guitar, balancing mechanical intensity with elements of groove and dance music. Songs such as "Dogshit," "VX Gas Attack," "Harsh Stone White," and "Testure" address animal experimentation, chemical warfare, addiction, the AIDS epidemic, and environmental damage, making VIVIsectVI one of Skinny Puppy's most explicitly political records.
"Testure" became the band's only single to reach the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart, while the album was followed by a North American tour with Nine Inch Nails as the opening act. VIVIsectVI has since become closely associated with the development of industrial and electronic music in the late 1980s.
