The Scream is the debut studio album by Siouxsie and the Banshees, released in 1978 through Polydor Records. Recorded at RAK Studios with producer Steve Lillywhite, the album followed the success of the band's debut single "Hong Kong Garden" and established the stark, unconventional sound that would become closely associated with early post punk.

The record is built around Steven Severin's prominent bass, John McKay's jagged guitar work, Kenny Morris's tom heavy drumming, and Siouxsie Sioux's distinctive vocals. The band deliberately avoided giving any one instrument a traditional lead role, creating arrangements in which bass, guitar, percussion, and voice occupy separate rhythmic and melodic spaces. Songs such as "Jigsaw Feeling," "Metal Postcard," "Suburban Relapse," and "Switch" combine sparse structures with a tense, spacious production influenced in part by film scores and writers including J. G. Ballard and William S. Burroughs.

The Scream reached number 12 on the UK Albums Chart and became an important influence on later post punk, alternative rock, and noise rock. Musicians including members of Joy Division, U2, Killing Joke, the Jesus and Mary Chain, and Steve Albini have cited the album or its guitar sound as an influence.
