This Is Acting is the seventh studio album by Sia, released in 2016 through Inertia, Monkey Puzzle, and RCA Records. The album is largely composed of songs originally written for other artists, giving its title a direct connection to Sia’s description of performing material intended for different voices.
The record pairs large scale pop production with Sia’s forceful vocal style, moving between dramatic ballads, electronic pop, and rhythm driven tracks. “Alive” was originally written for Adele, while “Cheap Thrills” was intended for Rihanna and later became Sia’s first number one single on the Billboard Hot 100. Other notable songs include “Bird Set Free”, “Move Your Body”, and “Unstoppable”.
This Is Acting debuted at number one in Australia, reached number four on the Billboard 200, and received a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album.
