He’s Coming is an album by Roy Ayers Ubiquity, released in 1972 on Polydor Records. It captures Ayers’s transition from soul jazz toward the groove based jazz funk sound that would shape much of his work during the decade.
The album combines vibraphone, electric piano, organ, guitar, and layered percussion with elements of funk, soul, and spiritual jazz. Harry Whitaker, Sonny Fortune, Billy Cobham, Juma Santos, and others contribute to the ensemble, while Ron Carter appears on “We Live in Brooklyn, Baby”.
Built around strong rhythm sections and spacious arrangements, the record places Ayers’s melodic vibraphone within a warmer, more song oriented setting than his earlier work.
