The Dream Is Over is the second studio album by Canadian punk rock band PUP, released in 2016 through Royal Mountain Records in Canada and SideOneDummy Records internationally. Produced by Dave Schiffman, the album followed roughly two years of heavy touring behind the band's debut, a period in which PUP played around 450 shows and developed into a tighter, more confident live unit.
The record channels that experience into loud guitars, gang vocals, and fast, melodic arrangements paired with lyrics about touring, strained relationships, adulthood, and exhaustion. "If This Tour Doesn't Kill You, I Will" grew directly from tensions within the band, while "DVP" follows a destructive night in Toronto and "Sleep in the Heat" was inspired by the death of frontman Stefan Babcock's pet chameleon.
The album title came from a doctor who told Babcock that "the dream is over" after diagnosing him with a cyst and hemorrhaging in his vocal cords. The Dream Is Over was later shortlisted for the 2016 Polaris Music Prize and became the band's first album to appear on national record charts.
