High/Low is the debut studio album by American alternative rock band Nada Surf, released in 1996 and produced by Ric Ocasek. The record introduced the band's guitar driven sound and brought them wider attention through the single "Popular."
The album combines alternative rock and power pop with direct guitar arrangements, steady backbeats, and concise songwriting. "Popular" became the band's breakthrough single and remains the song most closely associated with the album. Nada Surf supported High/Low with extensive touring, including dates with Superdrag and the Gravel Pit.
High/Low established Nada Surf nationally and marked the beginning of a career that would continue well beyond the mid 1990s alternative rock period in which the album first appeared.
