NEW LP
New sealed copy, 2017 reissue.
Vs. is the debut full length album by Mission of Burma, released in 1982 on Ace of Hearts Records. Expanding on the sound of the band's earlier Signals, Calls, and Marches EP, the album blends post punk, art rock, and experimental noise while capturing the intensity of the group's live performances.
Recorded in a large studio space to preserve the band's raw sound, Vs. features a greater use of Martin Swope's tape loops and electronic effects alongside the angular guitars and driving rhythms that defined Mission of Burma's music. Songs such as “Secrets”, “Mica”, and “Trem Two” balance melody with dissonance, creating a sound that was both adventurous and influential.
Although it received strong critical reviews upon release, Vs. proved to be the band's only studio album of the 1980s, as Mission of Burma disbanded shortly afterward due to guitarist Roger Miller's worsening tinnitus. In the years since, the album has come to be regarded as one of the defining American post punk releases of its era.
