Thriller is the sixth studio album by Michael Jackson, released in 1982 through Epic Records. Produced by Quincy Jones, who had also worked with Jackson on Off the Wall, the album was recorded at Westlake Recording Studios in Los Angeles. Jackson wrote four of its nine songs, including "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'," "The Girl Is Mine," "Beat It," and "Billie Jean."
The album combines pop, funk, soul, rock, rhythm and blues, and synth pop, with guest contributions from Paul McCartney and Eddie Van Halen. Its songs range from the funk driven "Billie Jean" and "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" to the rock influenced "Beat It," the ballad "Human Nature," and the title track, which features a spoken performance by Vincent Price.
Thriller spent 37 weeks at number one on the Billboard 200 and produced seven top ten singles in the United States. It won eight Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, and became the best selling album of all time, with estimated worldwide sales of more than 70 million copies.
