Too High to Die is the eighth studio album by Meat Puppets, released on January 25, 1994 by London Records. Produced by Paul Leary, the album blends the band’s roots in punk and alternative rock with a more accessible, melodic approach that helped bring them to a wider audience.
Driven by the success of “Backwater,” which became a major radio hit, the album marked a commercial peak for the band. It topped the Heatseekers chart and went on to earn gold certification, supported by a lengthy tour alongside artists like Blind Melon and Stone Temple Pilots.
While earlier releases leaned more experimental, Too High to Die presents a more focused and refined version of the band’s songwriting. It retains their offbeat perspective and lyrical style, but with a clearer structure and broader appeal, making it one of the most recognizable entries in their catalog.
