Lee-Way is an album by trumpeter Lee Morgan, recorded in 1960 and released the following year on Blue Note Records. The session features Jackie McLean on alto saxophone, Bobby Timmons on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Art Blakey on drums.
The album is rooted in hard bop, combining blues based writing, gospel influenced phrasing, and tightly structured ensemble playing. Morgan and McLean provide contrasting horn voices, supported by Timmons’s rhythmic piano work and the forceful Blakey and Chambers rhythm section.
“The Lion and the Wolff” was written in tribute to Blue Note founders Alfred Lion and Francis Wolff.
