NEW LP
New sealed copy.
Phantom Island is the twenty-seventh studio album by Australian psychedelic rock band King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, released on 13 June 2025 through p(doom) Records. Developed alongside their 2024 album Flight b741, it continues the thematic thread of that record but with a more orchestral and cinematic sound.
Initially recorded without plans for orchestration, the album evolved after the band’s 2023 Hollywood Bowl performance, where they connected with members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Inspired by that experience, the band brought in British composer Chad Kelly to arrange orchestral parts, blending classical instrumentation with the band's trademark improvisational style. According to frontman Stu Mackenzie, the songs were assembled from long jam sessions and “stitched together” in post-production, later enhanced with orchestral layers that added new energy and depth.
Promotion began with the single “Phantom Island” in October 2024, followed by “Deadstick” and “Grow Wings and Fly” in spring 2025. The album was supported by a special tour featuring live performances with orchestras, and accompanied by a behind-the-scenes documentary released on the day of the album. Phantom Island marks a bold stylistic shift for the band, pairing their exploratory rock foundation with sweeping, symphonic arrangements.
