Middle of Nowhere is the seventh studio album by Kacey Musgraves, released May 1, 2026 through Lost Highway Records. Written and recorded after signing to the relaunched label, the album was shaped by a period of prolonged singlehood and explores themes of solitude, independence, and emotional transition.
Drawing heavily from Musgraves’s Texas roots, the album blends country, Western swing, bluegrass, and regional Mexican influences, with an emphasis on traditional instrumentation including pedal steel. Singles released ahead of the album included “Dry Spell”, “Middle of Nowhere”, and “Loneliest Girl”.
The album received generally positive reviews, with critics highlighting its reflective songwriting and mix of classic and contemporary country styles. Some viewed it as a return to the more traditional sound of her earlier work, while others described it as a transitional record within her catalogue.
