La La Land: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is the soundtrack album to Damien Chazelle's 2016 film La La Land, released through Interscope Records. The music was composed and orchestrated by Justin Hurwitz, who had previously worked with Chazelle on his earlier films.
The album combines original songs with selections from Hurwitz's score. Lyrics were written primarily by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, while "Start a Fire" was written by John Legend, Hurwitz, and Marius de Vries. The soundtrack includes "City of Stars," one of the film's central songs.
La La Land: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack reached number one on the UK Albums Chart and number two on the Billboard 200. At the 89th Academy Awards, the film won Best Original Score for Hurwitz and Best Original Song for "City of Stars."
