Written by Jay Kay and Toby Smith, the song blends funk, acid jazz, and pop, pairing its infectious groove with lyrics that examine technology, environmental decline, and humanity's growing dependence on modern society.
The single became one of Jamiroquai's biggest international hits, reaching the Top 10 in several countries and earning the band a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. Its groundbreaking music video, directed by Jonathan Glazer, won four MTV Video Music Awards, including Video of the Year, and remains one of the most recognizable music videos of the 1990s.
