Bossa Nova Soul Samba is an album by American tenor saxophonist Ike Quebec, recorded in 1962 and released through Blue Note Records. It was Quebec’s final recording session before his death in January 1963.
The album places Quebec’s warm, full tenor sound within a lighter bossa nova setting, combining jazz phrasing with Brazilian influenced rhythms and understated accompaniment. Rather than emphasizing extended improvisation, the arrangements focus on melody, relaxed tempos, and the contrast between Quebec’s robust tone and the softer rhythmic backdrop.
Bossa Nova Soul Samba stands apart from Quebec’s more traditional hard bop recordings by presenting his playing in a smoother, more rhythmically restrained setting while retaining the direct, lyrical style that characterized his work for Blue Note.
