Power is the second studio album from Ice-T, released in September 1988 and produced in collaboration with Afrika Islam. Recorded at DJ Evil E’s home studio in Los Angeles, the album blends hard-hitting beats with provocative commentary, covering themes ranging from drug culture and sex to systemic corruption and gun violence.
Anchored by standout singles “I’m Your Pusher” and “High Rollers,” the album sharpened Ice-T’s streetwise lyricism and confrontational tone. It also sparked a feud with LL Cool J and stirred controversy over its cover art and lyrical content, which drew criticism from mainstream media for its portrayal of violence and stereotypes.
Despite the backlash, Power was a critical and commercial success, eventually earning platinum certification. Its influence and impact on West Coast hip hop remain significant, and the album continues to receive praise for its raw production and unapologetic voice.
