Flip Your Wig is the fourth studio album by Hüsker Dü, released in 1985 through SST Records. It was the band's first self produced album and their final release for SST, arriving during a period in which the group was moving away from the raw hardcore punk of its early work toward more melodic songwriting and power pop influences.
Recorded across several sessions in Minneapolis, the album received considerably more studio time than the band's earlier records. The clearer production placed greater emphasis on vocals and melody while retaining the distorted guitars and forceful performances associated with Hüsker Dü. Bob Mould and Grant Hart each contributed roughly half of the songs, with "Makes No Sense at All" becoming the band's first track to receive significant album rock radio airplay.
Flip Your Wig reached number five on the CMJ album chart and became SST's best selling album at the time, selling 50,000 copies in its first four months. By the time it appeared, Hüsker Dü had already signed with Warner, making the record a closing chapter in the band's SST period before their move to a major label.
