The Warning is the second studio album by Hot Chip, released in 2006 through EMI and Astralwerks. Recorded primarily in Joe Goddard’s bedroom and produced by Goddard and Alexis Taylor, the album sharpened the group’s early electro soul sound into a more focused blend of synth pop, dance music, and electronic rock.
Songs such as “Boy from School”, “Over and Over”, and “(Just Like We) Breakdown” combine vintage synthesizers, live percussion, clipped samples, and understated vocals. The arrangements often contrast soft melodies with darker or more confrontational lyrics, most clearly on the title track.
The Warning reached number 34 on the UK Albums Chart and was nominated for the 2006 Mercury Music Prize.
