Made in the Dark is the third studio album by Hot Chip, released in 2008 through EMI, Astralwerks, and DFA Records. Recorded across bedrooms, studios, and live spaces, it expanded the group’s electronic pop sound with a greater emphasis on full band performance and varied acoustic textures.
The album moves between dance floor tracks, synth pop, experimental electronic music, and restrained romantic ballads. “Ready for the Floor”, “One Pure Thought”, and “Shake a Fist” pair detailed programming with live percussion and layered vocals, while songs such as “Made in the Dark” and “We’re Looking for a Lot of Love” reflect the more personal tone of Alexis Taylor’s lyrics.
Made in the Dark reached number four on the UK Albums Chart, while “Ready for the Floor” became the band’s highest charting UK single.
