Live Through This is the second studio album by Hole, released in 1994 through DGC Records. Produced by Sean Slade and Paul Q. Kolderie, the album marked a clear shift from the abrasive noise rock of Pretty on the Inside toward more melodic and structured alternative rock while retaining the band's heavier edge. It was also the only Hole album to feature bassist Kristen Pfaff.
The record balances distorted guitars and forceful rhythms with stronger hooks, harmonies, and quieter passages, moving between songs such as "Violet," "Miss World," "Doll Parts," "Softer, Softest," and "Asking for It." Courtney Love's lyrics address motherhood, body image, depression, abuse, elitism, and violence against women, while drawing on personal experience alongside literary and film references.
Live Through This reached number 52 on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum in the United States. It became Hole's most commercially successful album and has remained one of the most widely recognized alternative rock releases of the 1990s.
