Celebrity Skin is the third studio album by American alternative rock band Hole, released in 1998 through DGC Records and Geffen Records. Produced by Michael Beinhorn, the album marked a deliberate move away from the noise and grunge influence of Pretty on the Inside and Live Through This toward a more polished alternative rock and power pop sound. It was also the band's only studio album to feature bassist Melissa Auf der Maur.
Courtney Love wrote the lyrics, while Billy Corgan contributed to the musical arrangements of five songs. California and Los Angeles culture serve as recurring themes, with the band using the state as a broader setting for songs about fame, ambition, beauty, and disillusionment. Water and drowning also appear repeatedly in the album's lyrics and artwork.
The album includes "Celebrity Skin," "Malibu," and "Awful." It reached number nine on the Billboard 200, became Hole's most commercially successful album, and received a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album.
