Appetite for Destruction is the debut studio album by Guns N' Roses, released in 1987 through Geffen Records. Produced by Mike Clink, the album was recorded after the band had built a following on the Los Angeles club circuit, with much of its material drawn from the members' personal experiences and daily life.
The record combines hard rock, blues based guitar work, punk influence, and glam metal, with Slash and Izzy Stradlin providing the dual guitar foundation behind Axl Rose's vocals. Songs including "Welcome to the Jungle," "Mr. Brownstone," "Out ta Get Me," and "Rocket Queen" address urban life, drugs, relationships, and the band's experiences in Los Angeles. The album also includes "Sweet Child o' Mine" and "Paradise City," both of which became major singles.
After a slow commercial start, Appetite for Destruction reached number one on the Billboard 200 in 1988. It was later certified 18 times Platinum in the United States, sold more than 30 million copies worldwide, and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2024.
