Warning is the sixth studio album by Green Day, released on October 3, 2000, through Reprise Records. Expanding on the broader direction hinted at on Nimrod, the band shifted away from their earlier punk style toward a blend of acoustic, pop, and folk influences. The record also featured a change behind the scenes: it was the group’s first major-label album not produced by Rob Cavallo, though he remained involved as executive producer.
The release drew attention for its stylistic pivot but was generally well received, with critics noting the strength of Billie Joe Armstrong’s songwriting. Commercially, it debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 yet became the band’s least successful major-label album at the time. A high-profile leak on Napster weeks before release was widely cited as a factor in its performance. Warning was later certified gold in the United States and has sold more than 3.5 million copies worldwide.
