Hub Cap is an album by American trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, released in 1961 through Blue Note Records. The session features Hubbard with trombonist Julian Priester, tenor saxophonist Jimmy Heath, pianist Cedar Walton, bassist Larry Ridley, and drummer Philly Joe Jones.
The album is rooted in hard bop and includes several Hubbard compositions alongside material written specifically for the session. The title track takes its name from Hubbard's nickname, while "Luana" was dedicated to his niece and "Earmon Jr." was named for his brother. "Cry Me Not," composed by Randy Weston and arranged by Melba Liston, was singled out by Hubbard as one of the most interesting pieces on the record.
Hub Cap is one of Hubbard's early Blue Note releases and documents the developing style of a trumpeter who would become a major figure in 1960s jazz.
