Ice on the Dune is the second studio album by Australian electronic duo Empire of the Sun, released in 2013 through Capitol Records. Following Walking on a Dream, the album expanded the scale of the group's synth pop sound with brighter production, larger arrangements, and a stronger emphasis on dance music. The release was introduced by the singles "Alive," "DNA," and "Celebrate."
The album combines synth pop, disco, electronic rock, house, and new wave influences, moving between the orchestral opening of "Lux," the upbeat pulse of "Alive" and "Concert Pitch," and the more restrained "I'll Be Around" and "Keep a Watch." Nick Littlemore described the record as having an arc that moves from celebration toward quieter reflection before opening out again at the end. Its writing was shaped in part by touring, travel, distance, and separation from family and loved ones.
Ice on the Dune continued the theatrical visual world established by the duo's debut while presenting a more polished and expansive version of their electronic pop style. The album also received several ARIA nominations, while its cover artwork won an Artisan Award in 2013.
