Elvis Presley is the debut studio album by Elvis Presley, released in 1956 through RCA Victor. Recorded partly at RCA studios in Nashville and New York, the album also incorporates several earlier recordings from Presley’s sessions at Sun Studio in Memphis.
The record brings together rock and roll, rhythm and blues, country, and rockabilly, with Presley backed by guitarist Scotty Moore, bassist Bill Black, and other session musicians. Songs such as “Blue Suede Shoes”, “I Got a Woman”, “Tutti Frutti”, and “Money Honey” reflect the mixture of styles that shaped his early sound.
Elvis Presley spent ten weeks at number one on the Billboard albums chart, becoming the first rock and roll album to top the chart and the first in the genre to sell more than one million copies.
