The Cat Walk is a 1961 album by jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd, released on Blue Note in 1962. The record features Byrd alongside longtime collaborator Pepper Adams, whose baritone saxophone provides a heavier counterpoint to Byrd’s smoother, melodic trumpet playing.
Recorded during a particularly strong period in Byrd’s early Blue Note run, the album blends hard bop with blues and soulful arrangements. The chemistry between Byrd and Adams is central throughout, giving the record a relaxed but tightly played feel that helped define many of Byrd’s recordings from this era.
Retrospective reviews have been highly positive, with critics frequently highlighting the interplay between the two musicians and the strength of the session as a whole. It remains one of the standout titles from Byrd’s early 1960s Blue Note catalogue.
