NEW LP
New sealed copy. 2025 remastered reissue. First time officially on vinyl since 2017.
Ultra is the ninth studio album by Depeche Mode, released on April 14 1997 by Mute Records. It was the band’s first album following the departure of Alan Wilder and marked their return as a trio for the first time since A Broken Frame. The record was produced by Tim Simenon of Bomb the Bass, making it the first Depeche Mode album where the band did not take on production duties themselves.
Recorded during a turbulent period for the group, Ultra was released amid widespread speculation about the band’s future. Despite this, the album debuted at number one on the United Kingdom Albums Chart and reached number five on the United States Billboard 200. It was promoted through a limited series of live appearances rather than a full tour.
The album was preceded by the singles “Barrel of a Gun” and “It’s No Good,” and followed by “Home” and “Useless.” Over time, Ultra has been recognized as a significant late nineties entry in the band’s catalog and has been cited for its influence beyond Depeche Mode’s immediate audience.
