NEW DOUBLE LP
New sealed copy. 2025 remastered reissue.
Exciter is the tenth studio album by Depeche Mode, released on May 14, 2001 in the United Kingdom and May 15 in the United States. Produced by Mark Bell, the record continued the band’s evolution into more atmospheric and minimalist electronic territory, blending stark digital textures with touches of blues, retro pop, and orchestral arrangements. Its lead single Dream On reflected that hybrid approach, pairing acoustic elements with spare electronic programming.
The album debuted at number nine in the UK and number eight in the US, selling 115,000 copies in its first week in America. It went on to earn gold certification from the RIAA and in Canada. Exciter was supported by a major world tour that became one of the most commercially successful of the band’s career.
Reception on release was mixed to positive. Critics praised Bell’s subtle production and the album’s experimental lean, while others felt the material lacked the strength of the band’s earlier work. Over time, Exciter has settled into a distinct place in Depeche Mode’s catalog as a restrained, textural record that set the stage for the fuller analogue approach of their later albums.
