Ohms is the ninth studio album by Deftones, released in 2020 through Reprise Records. Produced by longtime collaborator Terry Date, the album marked the band’s first work with him since the unreleased Eros sessions and the final Deftones album to feature bassist Sergio Vega.
Blending alternative metal, shoegaze, post hardcore, and atmospheric textures, Ohms continued the band’s balance between heaviness and melody while introducing new elements, including Stephen Carpenter’s use of a nine string guitar. Songs like “Genesis”, “Ceremony”, and the title track combined dense guitar layers with the more melodic and expansive songwriting style the band had developed across their later albums.
The album received widespread critical acclaim upon release, with many critics describing it as one of the band’s strongest and most focused records in years. It was also nominated for multiple Grammy Awards, including Best Metal Performance for “Genesis” and Best Rock Performance for “Ohms”.
