Resurrection is the second studio album by Common Sense, released in 1994 through Relativity Records. Produced primarily by No I.D., the album continued the Chicago rapper's collaboration with the producer while presenting a more focused and reflective approach than his 1992 debut, Can I Borrow a Dollar? It was also the final album released under the full Common Sense name before he shortened it to Common.
The album is structured around references to Chicago's South Side, with its two halves titled "East Side of Stony" and "West Side of Stony" after Stony Island Avenue. Common's writing addresses personal growth, class, identity, and the changing direction of hip hop, with short interludes helping create a loose narrative throughout the record. The closing "Pop's Rap" introduced Common's father, Lonnie Lynn Sr., whose spoken word appearances would become a recurring feature on later albums.
Among its best known tracks is "I Used to Love H.E.R.," which uses a woman as an allegory for hip hop and Common's concerns about the genre's increasing focus on gangsta rap and materialism. Although Resurrection received limited mainstream commercial attention, it became an important release in Common's early catalogue and was later included among The Source magazine's 100 best hip hop albums.
