That’s the Spirit is the fifth studio album by Bring Me the Horizon, released on September 11 2015. The record marked a clear shift away from the band’s earlier metalcore sound toward a more accessible alternative rock and metal approach. It was produced by vocalist Oliver Sykes and keyboardist Jordan Fish, who handled production internally rather than working with an external producer.
The album was preceded by the single “Drown,” released in October 2014, followed by “Happy Song,” “Throne,” “True Friends,” “Follow You,” “Avalanche,” and “Oh No.” Promotional activity included the use of an umbrella symbol that appeared in tattoos, posters, and stickers across England prior to the album’s announcement. Around the same period, the band ended its relationship with Epitaph Records and signed with Sony Music subsidiaries RCA and Columbia.
That’s the Spirit debuted at number one in Australia and Canada and reached number two on both the United Kingdom Albums Chart and the United States Billboard 200. It received widespread critical recognition and was included on several year end lists for 2015, reflecting its significance in the band’s broader catalog.
