Distance In Static is the eighth studio album by British musician and producer Bonobo, released in 2026 through Ninja Tune. The record follows Fragments and continues Simon Green's approach to electronic music through detailed studio production, live instrumentation, sampling, and collaborations with vocalists from several musical traditions.
The album features contributions from Arooj Aftab, Joy Crookes, Nilüfer Yanya, Ichiko Aoba, Nicole Miglis, and Aanya Martin, with lyrics performed in English, Urdu, and Japanese. Historic Iranian samples and recordings of the Chinese guzheng appear alongside Green's own processed instrumentation, extending the international range of sounds that has long informed his work.
Recording took place across Los Angeles, Tokyo, London, and other locations, with a significant portion of the album completed at Neil Young's Broken Arrow Ranch. Distance In Static accompanies a new Bonobo live production and follows a period in which Green expanded his international audience through albums including Migration and Fragments and extensive touring around the world.
