Anatomy of a Brief Romance is the seventh studio album by Bloc Party, released in 2026 through cOnTAGIOUS Ltd and Virgin Music Group. Produced by Trevor Horn, it follows Alpha Games and presents one of the band's most explicitly autobiographical records, with Kele Okereke documenting a relationship that began after the end of his previous eleven year partnership.
Structured chronologically across 14 songs, the album traces the relationship from its earliest attraction through intimacy, conflict, separation, and its aftermath. The opening "22.01.22" refers to the date Okereke first saw the man who would later become his partner, while songs including "Coming On Strong," "Love Bombs," "Pigwig," "Now We Can't Be Friends," and "Eulogy" follow different stages of the relationship. Okereke has described the lyrics as a direct account of events that actually happened.
Musically, Anatomy of a Brief Romance combines Russell Lissack's distinctive guitar work with synthesizers, prominent bass, electronic textures, and dance pop rhythms. Horn's polished production gives the record a more streamlined and synthetic character while retaining the rhythmic guitar interplay associated with Bloc Party's earlier work.
