Damaged is the debut studio album by Black Flag, released in 1981 on SST Records. It was the band's first full length release with vocalist Henry Rollins, whose intense delivery became a defining part of Black Flag's sound alongside Greg Ginn's abrasive, dissonant guitar work.
The album includes many of the band's best known songs, including “Rise Above”, “Six Pack”, “TV Party”, and “Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie”. Blending fast, aggressive hardcore punk with moments of dark humour, the songs explore alienation, frustration, conformity, and personal struggle.
Although it attracted little mainstream attention when it was released, Damaged became a foundational recording for the emerging American hardcore scene. Its raw production, uncompromising performances, and DIY approach influenced countless punk and hardcore bands that followed.
