Birdy is the debut studio album by English singer songwriter Birdy, released in 2011 through 14th Floor Records and Atlantic Records. Recorded while Birdy was still a teenager, the album consists primarily of interpretations of songs by contemporary indie rock and folk artists, presented through sparse piano and acoustic arrangements.
The album includes versions of Bon Iver's "Skinny Love," the xx's "Shelter," Cherry Ghost's "People Help the People," and Phoenix's "1901." The largely stripped back production places Birdy's vocals and piano at the centre of the recordings. The album also includes "Without a Word," an original composition written by Birdy.
"Skinny Love" became Birdy's breakthrough single, reaching number 17 on the UK Singles Chart. Birdy reached the top ten in six countries and introduced her to an international audience before she moved toward predominantly original material on her second album, Fire Within.
