NEW LP
New sealed copy. 2024 reissue.
Beach House's fifth studio album, Depression Cherry, was released on August 28, 2015, through Sub Pop in the United States and internationally through Bella Union, Mistletone Records, Hostess Entertainment, and Arts & Crafts. Dissatisfied with using live drums on tour for their previous album Bloom (2012), the duo returned to simpler dream pop arrangements relying on drum machine rhythms similar to their first two albums. Written between 2012 and 2014, the album was recorded at Studio in the Country in Bogalusa, Louisiana from November 2014 to January 2015 and co-produced by Chris Coady.
The album was supported by singles "Sparks," "PPP," and "Beyond Love." Though initially a promotional single, "Space Song" became a sleeper hit after gaining virality on TikTok in 2021 and appearing in Netflix's Wednesday (2022), earning double-platinum certification by the RIAA. Critics gave the album mostly positive reviews, with Pitchfork awarding it Best New Music and praising the band for never sounding "exactly this full and soaring before."
Depression Cherry debuted at number eight on the Billboard 200 with 27,000 copies sold and received gold certification in 2023. Less than two months after its release, Beach House followed it up with their sixth album, Thank Your Lucky Stars.
