Christmas Essentials is a holiday compilation by Aretha Franklin, released in 2026 through Legacy Recordings. The ten song collection brings together recordings from several periods of Franklin's career, combining Christmas standards, gospel performances, and earlier seasonal material.
The collection includes "Kissin' By the Mistletoe," "Winter Wonderland," "The Christmas Song," "Blue Holiday," and "God Bless the Child" from Franklin's earlier catalogue, along with later recordings such as "Joy to the World." It also features gospel performances including "Oh Happy Day" with Mavis Staples, "The Lord's Prayer," "Surely God Is Able" with the Franklin Sisters, and "Ave Maria."
Together, the selections present both the secular and gospel sides of Franklin's holiday repertoire across recordings spanning several decades.
